Guys incorrect way of doing manual cracking. The gentleman using the screwdriver on the starter is not doing it right. If you put a jumper (in this case a screwdriver) between the two big studs (bolts) you will bypass the solenoid A.K.A. Bendix and only power the electric starter without engaging it to the engine. The right way is to jump or make contact the big bolt with thick wire to the small bolt typically the one with wire at the solenoid marked with "S". Then the solenoid will kick the engaging gear and sen power to the electric starter motor. I found this image over the internet that might help. www.fixya.com/uploads/Howto/jturcotte.jpg I do not want to be the smart guys here, but if the intention is to help then I will share my 2 cents.

@Hamiltonville Farm, yeah learning always. We might be getting old, but never obsolete. :D Just subscribed to the channel Hank! BTW, back in the days we used start a cold engine by disconnecting the air intake hose at the nearest point of the engine, then get a torch with fuel on it, lit it up and get the flame next to the air intake tube while cracking so the flame quick heat the air into the cold engine. This procedure worked 99% of the time even if the glowing plug was faulty or not present, it is not as fast as using starting fluid (ether), but no risk of blowing the engine either.

it was so painful to watch them hammer on the starter when there not jumping the starter solenoid but the starter motor. you MUST jump the small wire over to the power not the large post. I'm hopping it gets sorted in the end.
