Our voter base now consists of toddlers, weirdo degenerates, and losers screaming at the top of their lungs on social media - calling anyone who disagrees with them white supremacists and bigots, bullying businesses and people into this NPC cult of wokeness that is 10x more racist and sexist than anything I've ever seen in my life. Yeah.....I'll take the electoral college deciding things any day over the current population voting.
Infinite Honkworks
The whole debate is arguably moot, due to the fact that anyone not genuinely insane knows that stealing an election would just serve as a detonator for an immediate civil war It wasn't a pretty sight the last time a group of unaccountable elites of a country decided that the dirty peasants didn't deserve a voice So long as the electoral college exists, it must be followed

Wait a minute. If the GOP tends to win presidencies lately by losing the popular vote, then it's in their best interests to shut down NaPoVoInterCo with state laws binding electors to their votes... which the GOP-controlled Supremem Court just reaffirmed they can do. I don't think this is a nothing burger.

Man you American's should try living in a Republic... in Africa. Lets see how you feel about your electoral college when the majority of your population is uneducated, highly superstition (they still burn goddamn witches and believe if evil spirits... admittedly the human sacrifice to make magic potions has in recent times become rather fringe) and still have a literal tribal mindset (and are still ruled over by a parallel literal tribal system of chiefs, headman and state sponsored kings).

States should be careful about the "Faithless Elector" laws that they put on the books. While it's true that information moves much quicker now, we also shouldn't eliminate the reason for their existence: to avoid the wrong move at the latest possible moment. Whether its due to a huge scandal that comes out after the election or its due to some sort of health problem, the electors should have the ability to do what the Constitution intended they have the ability to do.

As I read the text of the holding " held a state may enforce electors pledged to support his party's nominee and the state voters choice for president Which would preclude allowing another States vote to decide what the electors does with his vote. Which is exactly what the interstate compact would do. As the majority of one state would be overruled by the majority of a larger State or group of states easily .

So, do the electors for each state cast their votes in their respective state capital or do they travel to Washington, DC and cast it there?

Our democracy is dying, being killed by confusing and cumbersome rules laid down by the very people who created this democracy to begin with. We the people is a hollow statement. Then and now

maybe I overlooked the policy on that, but would it be possible to send electoral votes proportionally to the state's result? I feel like this could (theoretically in the long run) also break the two-party-lockup.

Mississippi has no flag, as it did for most of its statehood. It had no official flag 1817-1861, then 1865-1894, then 1906-2001 and finally 2020 onwards.

So, Article 1 section 10 says that no state shall enter into any agreement or compact with another state. Doesn't that make the NaPoVoInterCo illegal or unconstitutional (assuming there is some legal difference between the two)?
Quintinohthree
Quintinohthree 8 days ago
What is not explicitly mentioned is that this only concerns matters the federal government is authorized to regulate. Matters which the states regulate without input from the federal government may be the subject of an interstate compact without approval from Congress. NaPoVoInterCo concerns only matters the states regulate without input from the federal government, thus it is not subject to approval from Congress. Indeed, there is nothing Congress could disapprove of. Anything within it the states could do separately without approval from Congress and so they can do it together without approval from Congress.
