I talked about Stadia with my friend and he noted how Netflix regularly removes some stuff from their site. So he said if you paid for a game you like but it gets the axe then sucks to be you. I guess that’s why people don’t seem into it.

No joke there was a stadia ad before the video started
Fernando Langalú
Yahtzee, for someone who prefers single player games that don't require a constant internet conection to play, I think you missed the point as to why the Stadia did not catch on. Consoles and PCs have an advantage over the Stadia, and it's that as long as the games are installed, YOU CAN PLAY THEM. No matter how much you want to, you won't log into Stadia if you have no conection to internet. Who cares if they're bulky and if they make you blind if you stare at them too long, when they can provide entertainment without conection?

"do you imagine what you'd do if your internet went out and your hard drives were wiped"..........what force on earth could do that? yeah if your internet went out just play a game console that isn't dependent on it in life online DRM, but what wipes away your hard drives too? the only thing I can think of would be a massive EMP blast, and if that were the case im doubtful you'd have enough time to worry about entertainment before the Nuclear blast vaporizes ya

I hope every attempt at turning gaming into a "digital only streaming service in the cloud" thing where you don't have the machine or the games at home, crashes and burns. I hope this concept never catches on. I hate the idea of now having the things and depending on the internet, a service, and the good will of a company that can delete stuff any day. (remember what happened to PT?). it would be a nightmare for preservation too. so, let's keep the model where we actually own the devices and the games.

Stadia could be great but until they actually get the bullshit figured out I won’t be the test rat for them. Also the payments for a game and a subscription, and having to have the Very Best Internet available to play this is a price too high.

Watched this on the day that Microsoft announced that their next gen Xbox Series X will be launching in 2 months (November 2020) with - wait for it - NO EXCLUSIVES until 2021. This news coupled with Yahtzee’s nicer than usual tone really convinced me to pick up my stadia founder controller again and cut my losses with the state of gaming and where its heading.

you forgot 1 more negative nitpick about stadia: you cant use mods on those games. I know this isn't a big deal for console players, but some games are just made for mods, as silly as it sounds.

Never take the internet for granted: I stand by this point because, if humanity can go into a dark age once, it go into it again. Who's honestly capable of continuing with life without the internet? How would we adapt? What would it take to get it back? I really don't want to spend too much time worrying about those questions, but I won't ignore them completely.
Brandan Wilson
Brandan Wilson Month ago
@Yakumo614 I'm aware of that. I'm just bringing up the idea that others may not be. If anything happens to the internet, I know my options. I'm more looking at other people who obsess over what they use the internet for that they don't want to adapt to life without it, the ones who take it for granted that it will, somehow, always be here. I'm annoyed that among the people taking it for granted are Game Companies; it makes sense to use it to an extent, but it's getting on my nerves that they're reliant on it so much.
Yakumo614
Yakumo614 Month ago
Uh, the internet as we know it is still pretty young. A lot of people are older than it, and there's still a lot of things that you can do with your time that don't require it. If you can't figure out what to do with your life without the internet being in it you probably have an addiction and should seek help.

When it's plays choppy maybe it's time to buy a real internet connection. I play division 2, borderlands 3, destiny 2 on stadia and it's runs smooth. Stadia works much better than media and content creators are telling you. It's like the live of battlefield 5. From day one content creators talked bad noting was good. As good people do. They listen and don't buy the game. Sales suck. Ea pulls the plug. Now those same content creators complain they are out of a job. Because next bf is 18 away. Listening to what this i....t is telling. I guess he never used stadia at all.

Well I think Google Stadia is very out of date and not really consumer friendly. Atleast with Geforce Now you can link your Steam account and have ownership of the games you buy and do back-ups. Also you can still play a lot of your games at home if you have no working internet. Also PLEASEEEE tell me where is the "real internet connection" here in the middle of "rural suburban farmland" part of Canada? 300 ping and 85-97% uptime being the best plan out here is not very ideal.

Let's see: SEGA Channel, GameLine, PlayCable, XBAND, Famicom Modem, Teleplay Modem, Satellaview, Sega NetLink. All Commercial failures, You'd think Google is made up of "The smartest people in the world" would realize such things are fucking failures. The only reason, MS, Sony, and Nintendo are getting away with it, is because they have built brand recognition and trust with consumers enough to get away with it. But even then they still have physical options, just in case. So of course, Stadia is going to be dead on arrival. As expected.

The only lie of Stadia was when they said "zero latency" -- I dunno how they thought saying _that_ was a good idea. "Zero latency" could at least be fudged, most people would probably accept actual _near zero_ latency as "zero", since there are limits to perception... But having a literally impossible claim is just never a good idea. I've heard that it's decently low on latency, so at least it's not a hot mess of 1 second delays and whatnot.
