Thousands of people in the UK are still dying with coronavirus every week, an increasing proportion of them in care homes. (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
As the country edges out of lockdown there are still huge problems over PPE and testing for residents and staff of care homes. We've had access to Britain's largest care home provider HC One - which had the first care home outbreak identified in Scotland and where staff have come under significant physical and mental strain.

Defund PHE and NHS, and it should be investigated where the funds gone and what has they done exactly. Sorry and making sad face is not good enough. Just think you can make this numbers next time.

totally inept handling of the crisis by the UK Government. All borders should have been closed 1st March. Or at least 14 day quarantine sending new arrivals to the 50,000 empty hotels. Care Homes should have been isolated inc their staff. Clubs and pubs should also have been closed 1st March. Testing laboratories should have been ramped up in Feb.

In care homes they run a betting line on who will die next.. they scam people out of their homes for "care" and with the cv19 virus, their homes will be minted.. having their downpayments paid and noone to spend it on. Coronavirus is the greatest thing to happen to these so called care homes. Remember, it is the companies themselves who didn't have any ppe stock, who built the homes, who provide for them, private companies..making millions from our deaths. But everyone wants to blame the newly elected government.. not the cowards who tried to destroy our country for 3 yrs.. no not the communists or the liberal traitors who tried to overturn our vote, not the snp who betray every day, hiding secrets about cv19 infections.. no, blame boris.. his mess.. not anyone elses. We should be sueing the care homes.. not feeling sorry for them. The lesson to learn here is don't send your parents to care homes.. look after them yourself. Care homes are now refusing to take sick patients.. because they have flu symptoms.. not been tested, so noone knows they have cv19 or not. They're just refusing to deal with them, the very task they were supposed to be offering. Caring has now become too expensive for them.. now they know their bankrolling is about to be affected. Excess deaths.. like they reported who and how many before? More people dying from non cv19 now, than before.. I bet care homes aren't to blame for that either. Asymptomatic.. oh that wonderful excuse.. worker comes in puffing, with a headache, coughing.. doesn't self isolate.. doesn't want to fill out sickpay lines.. all asymptomtic. Obviously.. must be.. yeh. He said "you shouldn't be here", then "spat" at them...that doesn't make sense.. caring remark followed by insulting assault? Sounds like an insurance scam to me.

Their own Health and Safety Executive website states: "The Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 is a landmark in law. For the first time, companies and organisations can be found guilty of corporate manslaughter as a result of serious management failures resulting in a gross breach of a duty of care." The Westminster government clearly failed with regards to PPE.

@Überleben thats disgusting. Do you think they have allready been vaccinated like? Probably could prove it tbh... because she went in without symptoms no temperture nothing just the stroke and when she got to the hosp they said she had a temp so they put her in isolation and i think that put her at risk and she ended up poorly .. they sent her back to us from the isolation ward... and i think thats how it started... we were virus free 😭 devastated.

do you have evidence for it? i would report it to a news tv source and have them sued. its not only the elderly, they're doing this to, they do this to the younger people with diabetes too who could work and live a normal life for decades more. apparently they use covid19 to erase the elderly and the younger diabetics and alot of other peipke, to keep the marvels of the world to themselves. i think they will release more deadly viruses, while having themselves only already vaccinated.

I presume that people know that the Majority of Care Homes are actually Privately owned. It is the business/Care Home that is responsible for purchasing and providing staff with equipment. I used to buy the girls GLOVES as they were only allowed 3 pairs a day, instead of chocolates.

This government cleared the hospitals of elderly people and shoved them into care homes to die. This is the government of Bin Bag Brexit Boris! Of course it is a cynical way of getting down the costs of Social Care for an ageing British society . This will help the Tories to give more tax cuts to the rich If you are elderly and poor the government wants you off this planet because you are costing them money! That is the reason for their actions in this pandemic. Many wards have cleared out their elderly patients , you can ask NHS staff if you don't believe me and there are semi empty wards where formerly were elderly patients !
Hebe Montealegre
Poor nurses caring for people in those places, God bless and protect them, it must be very difficult right now. My heart and best wishes with them, again God bless you all

It happens because many leaders in many countries, like England, Sweden, Brazil and USA, didnt take strong measures soon enough... then many innocent people, specially the elderly, the frail, die because there are not enough resources to manage so many critically ill persons

Many of the residents of care homes have ‘do not resuscitate ‘ orders in place and will only be given palliative care within a hospital setting anyway. Sometimes it is kinder to allow them to stay in their residence with people they know with palliative care for their final days. The real crisis here is that care workers had to continue working or they didn’t get paid. The government support system did not provide enough support for zero hours contract workers. All care workers should have been tested in the early stages. Residents in bed can ONLY catch it from those caring for them and if they don’t know they have it how can it be controlled? I feel so sad for the workers. Get them tested NOW.

At this point - No NHS workers were being tested (unless so I’ll they were admitted to hospital).. despite us suspecting that we were transmitting the virus across the hospital, with no symptoms. There were not enough tests.. not enough even for people with symptoms - no proper PPE, even in A&E and covid wards (there still isn’t) ... If the hospitals workers are struggling.. there is no hope for other sectors :( - There were simply not enough hospital beds for everyone.. if you had added in all the people in care homes with symptoms- the NHS would have crumbled. It was cut-throat.. unless you would benefit from oxygen/ treatment/ intubation/ CPAP.. and had a chance of survival.. you would not be a priority for a hospital bed. By that point.. so many mistakes by the government- it was the only way. The government failed to prepare for a pandemic ... years ago. They had warning. They failed to act quickly enough with covid-19. They failed with testing. They failed with stockpiling and delivering PPE. Our hospital staff have died in the 100s.. and there is no reason at the moment why this won’t continue. They failed by depriving the NHS of funding for years and depriving the U.K. of good social care. It was the perfect storm. And we will be riding it for the next 18months at least :(

Government has lied, smudged, failed. It doesn't care about you. It doesn't care if you die. It cares about making money and turning a profit on social matters; where morally, ethically and realistically there is no profit to be made without this exact end result of unmitigated, self-inflicted, national disgrace. Tories will continue to secretly sell off the NHS: it's already happened and you ALL slept through it while you were deflected with austerity, while you got angry about Brexit, which happened anyway, because you all hate everyone and you don't realise you've been played. And the country will suffer regardless because it doesn't ever change. And the climate will fail because no-one will stop it. And Brexit will fail because no-one will mend it. And the inquiries will find the lessons to be learned and the 'here, today: gone, tomorrow' politicians will be wiser, older, richer and more influential than ever as they'll pass through the revolving door onto the boards of multinationals and higher office. The dead people, forsaken for political ideology and monetary reward, will still be dead. The perpetually disadvantaged and under-privileged will pay the price. The rich will still steal from the poor. And so it goes. The rich will still kill the poor. And so it goes. Herd mentality: Herd solutions.

For god's sake. Consider giving all care patients a daily supplement of Vitamin 'D' - check their levels. Living in homes 24/7 their Vit 'D' uptake is going to be low. Vit 'D' is good for the immune system. Same for people with darker skin, the darker the skin the more likely Vitamin 'D' levels will be low. This is an easy action with nothing to lose but maybe everything to gain. Also if possible open the windows, let fresh air pull through the home. Virus's like stuffy enclosed atmosphere's.

The care homes CANNOT be blamed for any deaths. Without testing, they are working BLIND. It's enough to GET enough care home staff because of the low wages and often zero-hour contracts. We all know it's too little too late. This virus is not ''going away'' any time soon! We WILL have a second wave of infection! And probably a 3rd and 4th. The government HAS to lessen the isolation measures or the economy WILL collapse! We are between a rock and a hard place and will be for not months but YEARS.
Überleben
Überleben Month ago
the second wave will come, because isolation measures are eased. I think the second wave will hit even harder, because after isolation, people will want to go out and visit all places, there will then be a lot of infected people who infect alot more people, so hospitals will be overrun and people die on the corridors in the hospitals, similar happend already in spain and italy. if isolation isnt eased and everybody stays home, economy will collapse, nobody will have even anything to eat. I think it would then be better have the more vulnerable in isolation at home and send the healthy people to work, to save the vulnerable and keep the economy alive too. virologists say there is going to be a vaccine against covid19 available in about a year, then it will be over.

You're right about vit. D. I was sick with pneumonia a few weeks ago and took 16,000 IU vit. D, 1600 mg of N-Acetyl Cysteine, and 100 mg of zinc picolinate per day for 3 days, which is a treatment that Indian doctors have been using with success. It did wonders for me. I'm still taking 6,000 IU vit. D and the same amount of NAC and zinc. I don't know if it's covid or not, but I had the same symptoms. I'm still coughing a little, but I no longer have pneumonia. Other things I took were 2000 mg of vit. C, olive leaf extract 1000 mg per day, 2,000 mg of oil of oregano, milk thistle, grapefruit seed extract, grapeseed extract, celery seeds, cayenne pepper, cinnamon, skullcap, diosmine, quercetin, Azythromycin, quinine sulfate, garlic, honey, ginger, curcumin, coconut oil and hesperidin. I took every anti viral, anti bacterial and anti inflammatory under the sun. All of these things helped out, except for the quinine sulfate. I took it for 3 days and my condition worsened, so I stopped taking it. I later discovered that it is an immune suppressant. I was using it as a zinc ionophore to open the cells up and allow the zinc to disrupt the viral replication, but learned that quercetin and catechins in green tea are better options for a zinc ionophore. It's a shame that doctors aren't trained in the use of natural compounds. The only solution that US and most western doctors have is a respirator. Thanks for the info on Vitamin D, there is no doubt in my mind that had I not been deficient in Vitamin D, I wouldn't have got pneumonia.

The University of Southern California recommends a minumum of 10,000 IU of vitamin D each day and single dose pills are made at that amount, although best to combine with vitamin K2. The Pharmacology of Vitamin D, Including Fortification Strategies states that there is "no evidence of adverse effects from taking 10,000 IU of Vitamin D a day". I take 10,000 IU each day, have for years. Currently, the tolerable upper intake level (UL) in Europe and the US is set at 2000 International Units (IU), equivalent to 50 micrograms per day. However, recent research, particularly from clinical trials, suggests that this should be raised. The CRN scientists state that this could be raised to 10,000 IU (250 micrograms per day). The reviewers, from the CRN, Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto and Crieghton University in Nebraska, pooled data from 21 clinical trials using doses ranging from 10 to 2500 micrograms (100,000 IU). The risk assessment also included data from animal studies, some of which used “extraordinarily high doses of vitamin D3”. “The lack of adverse effects in clinical trials that used intake up to 1250 micrograms [50,000 IU] vitamin D per day and the lack of adverse effects at lower doses inspires a high level of confidence in the data from the strongly designed clinical trials that used 250 micrograms [10,000 IU] vitamin D per day,” said the reviewers.

God Bless all the carers. They are heroes that have been forgotten. No PPE, no equipment ... failure to the elderly .... only given antibiotics for COVID 19 . Supposed to be supported by NHS .... we must do more

Care-givers, be they in care homes, hospitals, at home (area) looking after in a way of another affected family member(s), other relative(s), friend(s), neighbour(s) or just because they volunteer or work in the private sector(s), should be cheered, too! And more importantly, ensure that all care-givers are provided with sufficient PPE, compensation, freedom to choose to go or not to go to work/office/public transport, and anything that helps these precious professional and non-professional to come through, including of lost patients and frustration/anger over lack of PPE and respect.

Never mind cheering it’s to sad now,the government opened three massive hospitals with our tax money, they should be giving it to Carers residential homes to make the safer, they have no nurses or doctors to staff these nightingale hospitals, government haven’t got a clue how to run this pandemic, it’s just disgraceful.

@Mediterranean Diet No actually that's not exactly true. In most parts of the world the high up authority figures are comprised of senior doctors, nurses and mgmt staff. What treatment is available is a combination of scientifically proven efficacy and practical issues like cost, manufacturing etc. If there was a proven treatment available and doctors did not use it to save someone's life they could be struck off by the medical council. Doctors regularly read research papers and if they thought something worked they would use it. Even if it's use in a particular context has not been "sanctioned" as you put it, doctors would just use it "off label" (providing there is evidence to justify this risk of course). To claim the medical establishment has blood on its hands for "ignoring" treatments is wrong. They are not ignoring them. As far as I know we are currently carrying out larger (and therefore more reliable) trials on it. We can't just start mass prescribing something for a certain disease until we are certain it's A) safe in that context and B) effective. This process can take years.
Mediterranean Diet
Conal Corbally Medical Establishment are those in positions of highest Authority who decide what treatments to sanction. Doctors and nurses would have to defy the protocol and would be dismissed or worse struck off.

@Mediterranean Diet So you think doctors and nurses are currently allowing tens of thousands of patients to die because they all would prefer to wait 12-18 months for a vaccine? Ignoring the fact these doctors/nurses are people who have to live with their patients dying under their care or giving bad news to grieving relatives (lets just assume the entire medical establishment are all heartless killing machines for the purpose of your argument). Do you not think some of these doctors would be worried about loosing their licenses in fitness to practice hearings because of all the yaknow...murder?

Mediterranean Diet
Ilse Goodwin The blood is on the hands of the medical establishment that ignored the most effective treatment for COVID-19. Hydroxychloroquine plus zinc and AZT administered early has excellent results and therefore sabotaged by those with the vaccine agenda.aapsonline.org/hcq-90-percent-chance/

I’m a carer and while we have lost 3 who had serious health issues, the rest infected have not even been ill enough to make them take to their beds. They just looked a bit under the weather All tested positive. We had correct PPE and cared for the residents. We contained the virus. They recovered. So not all care homes are a disaster area. We are now covid free. I’m sure we aren’t the only care home to have successes.
