It's fascinating to see many people come together, enabling Kipchoge to achieve his goal.

Is it because the roads are pretty flat all the way to the end ???? What if it was a little bit uphill or downhill ???? But anyhow.. credit to the guys that ran with him.. those guys are just insane as well..

Me has been running long distances daily for several years now and can do record times as well turn heads I want you to clearly know and understand that with a pair of sneakers like he is running there is no difficulties your running but basically the shoes almost do the work for you. This is not why I will run daily 12 miles. Running teaches you Humbleness, teaches you inward hidden strengths, Teaches you how to fight/overcome/adapt/love others/accept others, it can teach you how to be an overall better person and so much more. I can run in these types of shoes but the overall work out reward feeling is not the same, Its like i just ran 12 miles in 1hr 20 minutes but did absolutely nothing that's not what i like. Life is not always about looking Mr cool, Mr i have it all together its about being real, genuine, true to yourself and the world around you.

it's not an official world record...it was done in an exhibition and a Nike commercial. Done in triple-level carbon plates in the shoes. Also, by definition to set a record in a sport you have to do it again opponents, on a competitive course, wearing approved equipment.

He had special shoes on, an entire team to break wind for him, water delivery, and the easiest course possible. much of that is not allowed in a regular old marathon so until he actually does it in competition this doesnt even count. obviously hes an amazing athlete and no one else couldve done this, but "breaking the barrier" under so many special conditions is not the same as actually doing it.

In recent years, we’ve seen a man run a sub-two hour marathon, a man free solo El Capitan, and a man and woman both run 200 mountainous miles in just around 50 hours. All three of these feats blow my mind.

Everyone saying that he looks relaxed and he s not sweating - every muscle you use costs energy, it s just most efficient to stay relaxed + studies found that trained athletes sweat different, less salt, more water, and after all less sweating at same HR. There are even studies showing that too much brain activity will slow you down as the brain needs quite a lot of energy. Greets from a German sports student! Nice video, awesome runner and I m amazed by the love these people put into the sport

Actually the Kipchoge marathon in Vienna, Austria, of 1:59:40 does not count as a new marathon record. No proper rules were followed. It is simply not an official record.

I haven't watched the video, I'm assuming he's gone into detail about the guys shoes? They have three metallic blades in them that assist you with your running, infact they've been investigated and deemed to give such an advantage that they've been banned. Infact a shoe with two blades is also banned in official races. Don't get me wrong the guy is still an animal but running with those shoes and all the pacers seems like it's a strange run to me

It's so insane that such a huge % of the population will never even come close to a 4:xx mile and this dude can do 26 in a row. I think training at higher elevations has to make a massive difference and explains why he doesn't look winded at all at the end.
David Pando

mad respect he did it. but damn with a bunch of support. lets see him run it by himself. I want to see the individual not the complex grouping of MANY supporting him. at most water along the way. I as an observer will NEVER say he did that record. I will if i gave enough shit go through and give EVERY one who helped him more recognition than I give him. As soon as you claim that place and you dont immediately concede it wasnt possible until your team came into play than go ahead and give them copies of the same medal hell your favorite team member the medal itself. He is nothing considering those accomplishments by himself. Ofcourse we all have a team but damn so obviously and so upfront and fuck you I need training wheels to get this and we all praise him?????

As a former high school runner, running on the treadmill and running on pavement are two completely different things. I was able to go 10 miles at 7 minute mile pace for practice no problem, but on a treadmill I struggle to go two miles at supposedly 8 minute pace Needless to say the treadmill comparison is not really a good or accurate reflection of what the marathon runner could probably do. I’d be surprised if he couldn’t last at least half a mile (2 minutes) at that pace. I was able to.

The treadmill is not a great comparison - but it is one he can reproduce cheaply with a treadmill and a tripod =)
