A strong hailstorm caused widespread flooding in Rome on Sunday, leaving motorists stranded in cars, fallen trees and inundated streets.
Footage emerged on Monday showing the storm’s runoff flooding escalators and going underground, an event which forced the closure of six metro stops and one underground station in the capital.
The severe weather hit also Campania, Calabria and Sicily, bringing an sharp end to the Italian summer.
