Most people are feeling sorry for Brian because he didn't get a romance in the end. The way I see it, he was the voice for all of them. Instead of an essay, he wrote a masterpiece which still rings true to this day.

I would like to believe Brian Johnson floated around until his mid-twenties. He then took out a loan on a convenience store, flopped, bought into a few other store investments, flopped, wound up bankrupt, took the money he saved in tin cans and went into day-trading stocks and build a rather comfortable nest-egg. He started a grant that allowed kids who make "C-" or less get into college - if they graduate, they would give .001% of their earnings, annually, toward the grant. He graduated 13,692 students with that "Low-grade" scholarship - four of which was offered Ph.D. courses in three different Ivy League Universities. With Andrew Clark: I would like to think he wound up bumming for several years whereas he found a knack in fishing -- which lead him to a very lucrative retirement in Tournament Fishing. John Bender became a prepper. I would like to think he found himself in the wilderness dodging Park Rangers for most of his life to illegally live in Yellow Stone and the Grand Tetons when he met different people from all over the World who invited (and paid his expenses for) him to teach them extremist survival skills in their Country's Wilderness. Because he didn't spend too much on houses, cars, marriage and other of life's liabilities, he retired in sweet comfort on the edge of his beloved Grand Teton National Park -- literally...his property line IS SHARED with the Grand Tetons...he will probably be found illegally camping 35 feet into the forest when his time comes. Allison Reynolds unimaginatively got a job at a local factory. She saved a co-workers life by placing a tourniquet around the squashed arm trapped in a press and was esteemed. She worked her way up to management, became good at seeing plans that other's couldn't and wound up buying (and expanding) her manufacturing business. Claire Standish relied on her cutesy/bitchy persona. Got hitched to a semi-well-off dude and had several children and a few tickets (with her husband) for lewd and mischievous conduct (she likes to get banged in the woods - sort of like John). Because she relied on her cutesy persona, she was not well-liked by her co-workers and went through many jobs whereas she found she was very good at Home-medical-transcription, began a private organization that offered beds to homeless and convicts who could match her skill and retired with just enough to allow her & her's to travel for the rest of her life. All five, in their hearts, knew they would not have been the people they became if it were not for that one day where the lines were blurred, friendships made, expectations challenged, hurtles jumped, and consequences faced with an impromptu band of unlikely teenagers. This is what I would like to think.

Everytime my friends and I would skip school back in the 90s, we would have to walk across the football field like Bender to get off school property, once we knew we were in the clear, we would always hold our fist up the same way lol, good memories.

3 questions: 1.Why exactly did Allison rip that patch off of Andrew's shirt? 2.How did the title and the name of the group even get that name? 3.What is that thing that John puts on his face at the end?

The frightening thing about this film is the fact that over 30 years later, the issues that these kids face are still relevant. Selfish, ignorant adults still hurt their kids’ lives by simply not understanding them. The more things change, the more they stay the same...

What I get from this scene is that they know deep down this could very likely only be a one day event. The way Allison looks at Andrew, and slowly backs up without wanting to take her eyes off him -- as if they are saying good bye. She takes his patch from his jacket to serve as a memory of this day. The way Claire gives Bender her earring as a keepsake as well, as if to say "goodbye...here is something to remember me by". She then quickly turns away after they kiss as if to say "let's not get too close...this was a one time thing"....The way they all go off individually, splitting up the unity that formed at the school -- going back to how it was before. What they had was in that room for that morning. That's where their unity existed. And afterwards they all split up and went off on their own ways, back to reality -- back to the norm. That's where their unity ended. And Bender raising his fist in victory at the very end...perhaps it signifies that even though their unity ended after detention, what they achieved was still a major victory; a breakthrough -- a momentary glitch in the matrix, where such different personalities, all parts of different cliques and different worlds, achieved something very rare and beautiful...if just for that one morning.

I love Breakfast Club, don’t get me wrong it’s one if my favorite movies of all time, my only problem with it is that Alison has to change her appearance to get Andrew to “accept her” and ask her out. Other than that it’s a great movie only being rivaled with Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back, Back to the Future, and Princess Bride

EPLURiBusUNUM that’s quite an interesting thought, thanks for sharing. I can relate to that melancholic feeling at the end of the movie, you just wonder what will happen on Monday. I agree with you that they probably won’t be able to maintain that special bond between them, it was only made for this situation. As for the keepsakes I think that’s a very nice detail they added. It’s sad how reality sobers everything, the magic is gone. But for us we can always press the reply button and start again, imagining that this day never ended.
EPLURiBusUNUM Month ago
I get this feeling of sensing that I'm losing something special. It's as if the special unity that formed from different people who were from different worlds, was coming to an end. It was a fleeting, temporary unity. They're all saying goodbye as if they sense the strong possibility that each of them will go back to their lives -- to reality -- and the unity they experienced will dissipate. They even take keepsakes (the earring and the patch from the jacket) as if they want something physical in order to hold on to their temporary connection that will stay with all of them forever.
